I only catch up once in a while, but I do make sure I do! Hope the UK is treating you well, cultural oddities aside.

Have you been keeping up with X-rated pollie gossip in Oz? We ended up going to a local celebration which was enjoyable albeit a bit too subdued for my liking.

I did call my parents who were, of course completely oblivious but oh well. I wish you'd had your phone connected and I would have called you instead. Sounds bad, but it's nice to share Tet with someone who values it.

Will try and call you soon! I keep intending to but the just goes...somewhere.

Here's to a better New Year for us both!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9516277.post-24606312850035256842007-03-29T00:37:00.000+01:002007-03-29T00:37:00.000+01:00I also love that image of your parents sharing the...I also love that image of your parents sharing the phone. I'm glad it wasn't too sad.

My experience of living in the UK is that it takes about 6 months to feel "half way settled" and about a year to feel "fully settled". Making friends can take a few months, but my experience was that once I made them, they have stayed friends for life.

I did laugh at your post on "Mange Tout". Not to mention courgettes, aubergines etc...took me a while to get the hang of it too. Then I had to "unlearn" it all when I came back here.

I was tutoring a boy in Biology in Australia, and he said "You pronounce some biological words really strangely" - because I had learned these terms at high school in England, I think I pronounced them with a Northern English accent. And a few words still pop up that make everyone look at me oddly.

I love the picture of your parents both with an ear to the phone. When my parents call from interstate or overseas, they do that too. My grandparents (who live interstate) sometimes snatch the phone from each other in their impatience to have their say, but because my grandpa is deaf, he has to hand it back to my grandma so she can hear what I say in reply.Legal Eaglehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01096038577529334966noreply@blogger.com
